The Govt Proposes To Complete The ‘IT Modernization Project’ Covering All The 1,54,939 Post Offices By March, 2017

Will the Minister of
COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:-

(a) whether the Government has any scheme to open post-offices in all the villages in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which all the villages are to be provided with post offices;

(c) the steps being taken to make post offices a medium for making goods and services available to each citizen in the country;

(d) whether the Government proposes to link all the schemes with post offices and carry-out computerization and modernization of nearly 1.55 lakh post offices on the lines of banks in the country; and

(e) if so, the time by which modernization of all post offices in the country is proposed to be completed?

ANSWER 
THE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD)

(a) No, Madam.
(b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.
(c) Postal services like Speed Post, Parcel Service, Logistic Post, Money Order Service, Mobile Money Transfer Service, Insurance Service is a medium for making goods and services available to citizens in the country through a network of 1,54,939 Post Offices. In addition to regular Departmental postal network, steps have also been taken to consolidate the medium of postal service for making goods and services available to citizens in the country through Panchayat Sanchar Sewa Kendras (PSSKs), Franchise Outlets (FOs) and Authorized Postal Agents. 

(d) Yes, Madam. The Government has initiated to link all the schemes with Post Offices through an ‘IT Modernization Project’ on the lines of the Banks in the country. 

(e) The Government proposes to complete the ‘IT Modernization Project’ covering all the 1,54,939 Post Offices by March, 2017.
